Forest City Military Communities today celebrated the completion of the first newly constructed homes at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii community of Manana, nestled on a wooded ridge above the heart of Pearl City. The blessing ceremony was attended by military and elected officials, those involved in the construction, and numerous Marine families, including Major Michael McMahan and his wife who officially received the keys to one of the houses, as part of the formal program.
The ceremony marked the completion of the first 51 homes at Manana, which is part of Forest City Military Communities’ public-private partnership with
the Department of the Navy. Forest City Military Communities’ Senior Vice President Jon Wallenstrom hosted the program that included remarks by Congressman Neil Abercrombie; Brigadier General Rex C. McMillian, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations Mid-Pacific; and Colonel Mark A. Dungan, Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
“Today marked a major milestone in our public-private partnership with the
Department of the Navy as these are the first new homes to be completed for
the Marines under the Public-Private Venture (PPV),” said Wallenstrom. “We
are pleased to bring our vision and mission of providing high-quality
residential communities that enhance quality of life and well-being to our
Marine families. In fact, with its convenient location to military
installations and a new and rapidly expanding shopping district, we’re
confident Manana will develop into one of the most sought-after military
housing neighborhoods on leeward Oahu.”
First constructed in 1959 as the Navy Capehart Housing Project, the gated
community of Manana was transferred from the Navy to the Marine Corps upon
completion of construction. This neighborhood will provide junior and senior
enlisted personnel and officers a safe, convenient and inviting community
they will enjoy throughout their assignment in Hawaii. Once completed, the
Manana neighborhood will consist of 168 new homes. All new homes will
feature central air conditioning, ceiling fans, wall-to-wall carpeting
throughout the second floor, two-car enclosed garages with remote access,
covered lanais, high efficiency appliances, solar water heating, alarm
systems, enclosed privacy yards and automatic lawn irrigation systems.
In addition, the neighborhood will offer a new community center and multiple
tot lots, play lots, play courts and picnic pavilions.
Manana is just one of 34 Navy and Marine Corps neighborhoods being developed
by Forest City Military Communities in Hawaii under the PPV. In addition to
all planning, financing, construction and renovations, Forest City also
provides ongoing operations and maintenance for the properties and
residential communities.
